Cranleigh Prep’s new drum room hits the spot!

8th December 2020

When you’re young (and for some of us, no-so-young), there is real joy in percussion generally and, in particular, drums. Even after the initial “hitting things with sticks” gives way to more controlled and refined paradiddles, flams and drags, it is true that drum practice can be quite disturbing to others.

For students at Cranleigh Preparatory School however, there is a new drum room which will enable a budding Stewart Copeland or Dame Evelyn Glennie to hone their skills with a significant drop in volume due to the room’s built-in sound reduction.

Cranleigh Prep selected a Studiobricks practice pod supplied and installed by Black Cat Music. The pod, which can be self-installed, was set up by Black Cat’s own team in around three hours with minimum disturbance. Certainly, for anyone who has experienced the dust and noise of building works, this must have seemed unbelievable. The pod can also be broken down and relocated just as easily.

Music Administrator for both Cranleigh and Cranleigh Prep, Claudia Golden thanked the Black Cat team and said “It is working brilliantly and it’s already in fulltime use. We have had to resort to locking it after school as the children are desperate to use it!”
